Lane Draws Update

All track events in which the declared number of athletes is too large to allow the competition to be conducted satisfactorily in a single race, organisers should provide two races per event.

1. The NAL expects a maximum of 12 athletes per event, 6 athletes per race in most circumstances.

2. The same principles will apply to male and female races

3. Any seeding will be based on the number of declared athletes. Scoring athletes to be allocated lanes 3, 4, 5 & 6 on 8 lane track and 2.3.4 & 5 on 6 lane tracks.

(a) Scoring athletes, A string and B string athletes (those with a single letter or double letter) to be allocated lanes in accordance with attached NAL lane draws.

(b) Athletes who are designated 3rd String with a single letter followed by X are to be integrated within Race One and Two through the following lane draw.

4. For all track events up to and including 400m, there are two races.

5. For 800m:

(a) The maximum number of runners in races with 8 lanes will be ten.

(b) The maximum number of runners in races with 6 lanes will be eight.

6. For 1500m, 3000m, and 2000m or 3000m steeplechase, unless there are exceptional circumstances, the recommended maximum number of runners in any race will be 12 and therefore one race only.
