The National Athletics League is pleased to announce its Fastrax Loughborough International Athletics team for the 2023 LIA Meeting on Sunday 21st May at the Paula Radcliffe Stadium.
Senior Great Britain internationals headline the squad, with world champion T44 sprinter Sophie Kamlish (Bristol & West) included, alongside Hayley McLean (Shaftesbury Barnet) and Chris McAlister (Thames Valley).
Kamlish is set to compete in the Para 100m, with McLean in the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay, and McAlister in the 4x400m.
As for the field, 69m hammer thrower Katie Head (Newham & Essex Beagles) is involved, as is 65m discus thrower Greg Thompson (Shaftesbury Barnet). Jodie Smith (Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow), the reigning UK champion in the heptathlon, goes in the long jump.
In the individual 400m, two-time European relay medallist Mary Abichi (Enfield & Haringey) competes after trying her hand at 800m at the recent British Universities’ (BUCS) Athletics Championships, where she finished second with an eight-second personal best across the competition.
Others who did well at BUCS a few weeks ago include 100m winner Leonie Ashmeade (Sheffield & Dearne), and high jump gold-medallist Emily Madden-Forman (Trafford), who will look to compete in those disciplines again in Loughborough on Sunday.
The same goes for Ben Hawkes (Blackheath & Bromley), who was victorious in the hammer in which he is the reigning England senior champion. Emma Hamplett (Birchfield) also holds that particular national title in the javelin, while 400m hurdler Bailey Stickings (Blackheath & Bromley) was a runner-up in Bedford last year.
Others to watch out for include Commonwealth Games finalists Alicia Barrett (Shaftesbury Barnet), who is down for the 100m hurdles and 4x100m, and pole vaulter Ellie McCartney (Woodford Green with Essex Ladies). Former European junior 800m champion Khahisa Mhlanga (Herts Pheonix) is among the top middle-distance talents.
The team is sponsored by clothing manufacturer Fastrax, the specialists in customised athletics clothing.
