Seven UK outdoor champions down for NAL Premiership Round 2

British champions Alex Haydock Wilson, Jake Norris (both Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow) and Jade Lally (Thames Valley Harriers) will be hoping to make it back-to-back NAL Premiership victories in Nottingham this Saturday.

European 400m medallist Haydock-Wilson is again down for the 100m and 200m, having triumphed over the longer sprint in Eton last month, with Norris and Lally back for the hammer and discuss respectively.

Norris is also on the discus entries, while fellow UK gold medallists Joel Clarke-Khan (high jump, TVH) and Efe Uwaifo (triple jump, Harrow) will be looking for their NAL first wins of the year.

Indeed, the match sees table-toppers TVH and Harrow face off after winning their respective fixtures in Manchester and Eton in Round 1.

Amelia Strickler (TVH) will hope to bring her tally of NAL wins to eight in the shot put, while high jumper Emily Madden Forman (Trafford) is also fresh from getting a silver medal at the national championships.

Jacob Paul (WSEH) and Chris McAlister (TVH) in the men’s 400m hurdles with McAlister’s teammates Jess Tappin and Nicole Kendall in the women’s equivalent.

Harrow also have Team England Commonwealth Games representative Owen Heard in the pole vault, European Championships competitor Miguel Perera in the 110m hurdles and European under-20 medallist Joy Eze in the 200m.

British Universities champions Leonie Ashmeade (Sheffield and Dearne) and Hannah Kelly (Trafford) are down for both sprints, as is Ashmeade’s teammate, European indoor 4x400m medallist Lee Thompson on the men’s side.

British bronze medallist Kayleigh Presswell (TVH) goes in the hammer after improving to 66.35 to get on the podium last weekend, with Notts’ Annabel Crossdale another strong thrower for the host team.

Lily Hulland (TVH) and Adelaide Omitowoju (Harrow), who have had several good battles this year, return in the triple jump.

Chelmsford have exciting young 400m hurdler Onyeka Okoh down for the flat one-lap race, with 2020 British indoor silver medallist Holly Gregory in Crawley’s team for the 100m and 400m.

Premiership Fixture 2B – Woodford

UK triple jump winner Georgie Forde-Wells is expected to make her NAL debut when she competes for host club Woodford Green with Essex Ladies alongside teammate and UK indoor champion Mary Elcock this weekend.

Adele Nicoll, who won the shot put for the second year in a row in Manchester, will compete again for Birchfield in that event alongside the javelin and discus.

The latter of those events will feature Kirsty Law (Sale Harriers) and Zara Obamakinwa (Blackheath and Bromley), making it two British discus medallists from last weekend as they also face Meghan Porterfield (Glasgow Jaguars).

69-metre thrower Katie Head is one of  (Newham and Essex Beagles’) biggest names, while they also have Freya Jones coming in following her UK silver medal in the javelin.

Other female field eventers to watch include Jade Ive (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers), who improved her lifetime best on her GB senior debut at the European Team Championships last month. Ive is likely to face rising star Sophie Ashurst of Sale.

There is a stacked men’s discus event with Nick Percy (SBH), Greg Thompson (SBH) and James Tomlinson (Birchfield) all declared. Thompson also goes in the hammer where he is set to face Birchfield’s Craig Murch and Blackheath and Bromley’s Ben Hawkes.

Hawkes’ club-mate Kelechi Aguocha will hope to impress in the high jump, while other track names to keep eyes on are Hayley McLean (SBH) 400m hurdles, 400m (and javelin), and Efe Okoro in the 400m for Birchfield.

Swansea have Hannah Brier down for the 200m, while Woodford’s squad also involves 400m hurdler Jack Lawrie and Phil Norman is on the 1500m list.
