Formed as Havering AC through the merger of Romford AC (founded 1951), and Hornchurch Harriers (formed 1953).

In 1992, the club name changed to Havering Mayesbrook AC, after adding a training and competition base at Mayesbrook Park in Dagenham. After vacating Mayesbrook to Hornchurch, they reverted to the name Havering AC in March 2014.

The club had spells in the BAL from 1991 to 1995, 1997 to 2003 and from 2009 onwards. Havering joined the UKWAL in 2001.

Hornchurch Stadium was officially opened by Lord Burghley on 17th May 1956 with an Invitation Meeting which included Phyllis Green-Perkins (Ilford AC) setting a UK women’s 1500m record of 4:35.4s.
