NAL to send team to Manchester International

The National Athletics League has confirmed it will send a team to the Manchester International on August 18.

The event at the Manchester Regional Arena returns after the pandemic led to the cancellation of last year’s event and it will also feature teams from England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and GB Under-20s.

Applications for selection are now being taken, with the team announcement being made as soon as possible after the third round of matches on August 7-8.

To be eligible, athletes must have competed in one of the first three rounds of this year’s league and a first-claim or higher-claim member of one of the NAL-affiliated clubs. They must have competed this season in the discipline in which they are seeking selection.

Selection will be made of the highest-ranked available athletes based on a combination of current form, Power of 10 rankings, head to heads and injury status. A maximum of one athlete will be selected for each individual event.

Athletes can express interest at any point after they have competed in an NAL match using this form, where a link to the full selection policy can be found. Email teamleader@nationalathleticsleague.org.uk for queries.

In 2019, a combined British Athletics/UK Women’s League team finished third in the match, boosted by performances from Jessie Knight and Angelita Broadbelt-Blake.

Tickets are now on sale for the event here.
