Milton Keynes win home National One match

This was a well contested match at Milton Keynes where the host club were challenged by City of Portsmouth AC and Reading AC.

In the final analysis, less than 50 points covered this trio, Marshall Milton Keynes AC winning with 296.5 pts, chased by Portsmouth (256.0) and Reading (248.7). Belgrave Harriers placed fourth with 157.1 pts.

Two of the best performances came in the field. Charlotte Payne (Reading) threw 64.09m in the women’s hammer. This was 91cm away from the England Commonwealth Standard for Birmingham 2022. She goes to the European Under-20 Championships in Tallinn this week.

This performance places her 7th overall in this year’s UK women’s rankings and she won both the England U20 and South of England Championships at Bedford earlier in June.

Andrew Knight (Portsmouth) won the shot with a best throw of 15.71m. He had set a PB of 16.93m in Winchester the week previous, placing him 9th in the current UK rankings for this discipline. His colleague George Rogers won the “B” string with 11.40m.

The highest points scorers for the men were Sam Winter (MMK) and Jonathan White (Portsmouth) in the 800m, where just 0.04 seconds separated the duo at the finish, Sam recording 1.52.22 with Jonathan (1.52.26).
