Birchfield Harriers was founded by disenchanted members of North Birmingham FC. The club was named after the Birchfield district of Birmingham and was based at Alexander Sports Ground in Perry Barr which was purchased in 1929.

Birchfield formed a women’s section in 1932.

The Midlands side, which has been represented at every summer Olympics bar one since 1908, joined the BAL in 1969 and the UKWAL in 1975.

Honours: BAL Champions in 1969, 1983, 1985, 1987, 1989 and 2015-19 and UKWAL Champions in 2011, 2012 & 2016
