Bournemouth AC

Founded: 1902

Identity Code: BAC

HQ: King’s Park Athletics Centre, Bournemouth, BH7 7AF

The club had two spells in the BAL, from 1992-1995, and from 2008 onwards. It was a UKWAL member from 1982-1999.

In 1939, club members Ken Baily, Douglas Brady, John Harris and Noel Griffin went on a relay run “across the Atlantic”. They ran around the decks on SS Bremen from Southampton to New York, covering 997 miles in five and a half days.

They carried a torch with a message asking President Roosevelt to declare war on Germany if they attacked Great Britain, hoping it would deter the Germans. Their appeal fell on deaf ears, they arrived back in England only three days before Hitler invaded Poland and war was declared.

Colours: Amber with a Royal Blue Vertical Band over the left shoulder.
