Formed in Hornsey. North London, the club was based at Tufnell Park track and later Parliament Hill Fields track, before moving to Copthall Stadium in 1974. Barnet AC formed in 1948 and merged with Hampstead Harriers in 1966 to become Barnet and District AC.

A separate ladies section emerged Barnet Ladies AC in 1976. This became Barnet Copthall Ladies AC in 1984. Shaftesbury Harriers amalgamated with Barnet Copthall Ladies in autumn 1986.

The club joined the BAL in 1976 and the UKWAL in 1991.

Prior to his £15 million move from Norwich to Newcastle United, Northern Ireland international footballer Jamal Lewis ran for the Club in the Youth Development League in 2014. He set an 800m PB of 1:52.45.

Honours: BAL Champions in 2012 and 2013. UKWAL Champions in 1997 and 1999
