The club started out as Swindon Harriers in 1996. Prior to that there were two major athletics clubs in Swindon – Swindon Road Runners and Swindon AC.

Swindon AC was the older of the two, while Swindon Road Runners was founded in the 1980s. They decided to amalgamate the two clubs because of shared common interests.

Like many UK clubs, Swindon experienced a boom in participation after the London 2012 Olympic Games which saw over 120 children turn up for a session. The club now has over 400 members.
